Friends

My sister and I have been learning a lot about friends lately. It's unfortunate but not many friendships last. Some friends are there for a day, some for a certain time of life you are going through and others that seem like they would last but then slowly they fade. Those are the ones where you think "Oh, we will be friends FOREVER" but then, mutually they fade and you get down the road farther and wonder what happened? How did the friendship end? But, it's okay, on both ends usually.
But then, there are some friendships that hurt when they end. And they might end for various reasons... disagreements, gossip, moving, whatever the case may be, but it still hurts. And it's still a friend lost but there isnt much to do about it, unless the Lord restores that friendship. I actually have a few like this. And just pray that the Lord will restore the friendship or at least open the eyes of all the people. Friendships are important but when it comes last then they wont work. And I'm sorry to say, but many friendships lately have just dissolved because of this. But that is okay I guess because God has a purpose for it. I just have to be content with the loss.

Thanks to all my friends out there! Past friends and friends now for being a friend and for praying for my family when we went through everything and just being so encouraging...Thanks!

I was recently talking to Mandy about the same thing. It's sad that so many people don't take relationships seriously enough. The body of Christ is just that — a BODY, not a random scattering of individuals. As the hymn says,

We are a temple, the Spirit's dwelling place,
Formed in great weakness, a cup to hold God's grace.
We die alone, for on its own
Each ember loses fire.
Yet joined in one, the flame burns on
To give warmth and light and to inspire.

It's sad that so many people today, so many Christians today are in it only for themselves, afraid to share other people's struggles — and afraid to share their own struggles with others. Another hymn notes that

We are travellers on a journey;
We are pilgrims on the road.
We are here to help each other
Walk the mile and bear the load.

America's mainstream "Christian" culture has been polluted with secular individualism to the point where Christians are even less inclined than unbelievers to expose their weaknesses and admit their failures ... they think that, as Christians, they're expected to be perfect. They're not strong enough or mature enough to admit that they're weak.

But Jesus said that His power is made perfect in weakness. And He is the Friend that will never leave you nor forsake you.

Friendships are such a wonderful thing... it can be very sad and painful when they end (for whatever reason). I have experienced that before, and I try to keep in mind that:
~ We are all imperfect human beings - everyone makes mistakes and makes wrong decisions.
~ I should not look to friends or friendships as my only source of happiness and comfort - there's a point when I should to look to the Lord to supply those needs, not to other people.
~ Forgiveness - I try not to become bitter at what has happened, and also to be careful that I don't make the same mistakes.
